A team of three MBA students at the Mannheim Business School developed a theoretical concept to identify and assess business models ("Micro Business Models"), that significantly contribute to the sustainable development in the poorest regions of the world, the so called "Base of the Pyramid". As a result, the team submitted guidance for private enterprises, which contribute to achieving the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDG) through innovative measures while developing potential new sales markets at the same time. Based on expert interviews with representatives of multinational enterprises, social business start-ups and development organizations, the team identified potential success factors for Micro Business Models and analyzed two promising business models in renewable energy and nutrition.
