Birnbaum

The Havelland region, situated west of Berlin, is best known inside Germany through a poem by Theodor Fontane ("Herr von Ribbeck auf Ribbeck im Havelland"). It remains no doubt totally unknown to practically everyone abroad. And even among German's, too, the Havelland in the state of Brandenburg (part of what used to be East Germany) remains unexplored territory and a non-entity as a region for tourism, despite its diverse cultural offerings. To reposition the Havelland and to differentiate it from other tourist regions, the Tourismusverband Havelland (Havelland Tourism Association) has initiated a project it has given the name "Birnbaum". In close cooperation with the association of student business consultancies, JC Network, and the world renowned consultancy firm A.T. Kearney, the old tourism concept of the region entitled "Wasser und mehr ..." (Water and more ...) has been overhauled and a new brand defined aimed at drawing tourists to the Havelland.
